[Part One.]

Unfortunately for me, I’m not the kind of person that believes in love. I used to be, but time does funny things to people. I barely remember who I was or where the fire in my belly came from. I was ready to skip across cities, kick dust over every state line, leave messages and secrets scrawled under bridges. I had stars on my forearms to keep me safe and eventually my hair smelled like the entire east coast. I didn’t know that I was running. Human beings are very good liars, you know? Especially to themselves. I called it “searching.” I said I wanted a compass. I thought I wanted a compass. It was all bullshit. I knew where north was, I knew how to find my way around, but I still kept getting seasick and making a mess out of myself. Pennsylvania probably still has scraps of my dresses hanging onto branches.
